The third full day of potty training and I am not feeling much confidence in where this is going. He peed five times and only one was an accident. This sounds like progress but it really isn't. He isn't making progress, I am.
After the first time he went in the potty I dressed him and we went to the market. There were some things I needed and since he can go a couple of hours without going I braved it. It went well, no accidents.
I decided to try something else to make time on the potty go faster: bubbles. He loves it and makes the time go by faster for both of us. I also got some store brand Oreos as treats every time he successfully uses the potty.
He took a nap around noon, diaper free and on the couch. I kept watching him but he napped for three hours without an accident. Once he was awake I got him on the potty and he peed soon after.
I've gotten good at knowing when he needs to pee so I sit him and after a while he does. He still doesn't tell me and judging from his reaction to accidents, he still doesn't get it. In his mind this is more like elimination communication, it's up to me to anticipate when he will go and get him there on time.
I explain what he needs to do and he does get rewarded every time he successfully pees in the potty but he doesn't seem to care. His expression every time he pees, whether on the potty or not, is one of surprise. I don't think he knows it's coming until it's actually coming out.
In the evening I sat him down on the potty because I knew he had to pee. We did bubbles and tickling and rubbing ice but nothing. After almost two hours I let him get up. I could see him wiggling but he was still not wanting to go. He finally let go when I sat him down again an hour later.
Since I had a chart today it was easier to add other information such as when he woke up and which potty trip was done after a nap.
