Today I got up and gave him his cup of milk as usual after I took off his diaper and put him in his underwear. There was some protest but it wasn't a full blown battle like yesterday so that's an improvement. I sat down at my desk and looked at the post-it with the potty trips. I grabbed another post-it and wrote down the time, today I was also going to keep track of when he had a drink. This could give me something else to help me anticipate. I also wrote down the how long it had been between each pee. Though the times were clearly written down in front of me it made it easer to have the length instead of having to do the math in my head every time. I am horrible with math and even worse with time math.
The day went surprisingly smooth, he peed twice and both times in the potty. We did happy celebrations and played airplane and all that. But I could see that he was still not getting it, he liked the celebration part but didn't really get what all the fuss was about. He is still fighting the potty but not as bad as before, he's just protesting and saying he wants to get up.
In the afternoon my mom came over. I knew she was coming but she usually only stays two or three hours and leaves. However, she showed up with people. And kids. And I got really worried. I hadn't really considered her a disruption to our potty training since he knows her and she was only going to be one person. But these were people I didn't know myself. To make things even more perfect, they arrived right when I was about to sit him down on the potty.
Nicholas was too excited to play with the other boys and I was busy hosting (gggrrr!!!!) and kept hoping he wouldn't have an accident. Turned out that the reason she brought these people was because they had brought the couch (long story) and no one bothered to tell me this in advanced! So not only were there strange people here but I was about to move things around in his play room. I was not sure how all this chaos was going to affect the potty training.
The evening was not as smooth as the morning, he had two accidents an hour apart. This caught me off guard, the first one was an hour and a half after he had successfully peed in the potty and the second was an hour later while the previous times had been several hours apart. Looking back on my notes from the previous day if I had taken the time to write down how long he went between each accident on day one so that it was easy to see I would have seen that he had only gone about an hour to an hour and a half between each time and that this was actually to be expected. So writing the length between each pee was a great idea.
It was a long day and shortly after the second accident he went to bed about an hour earlier than usual. At this time I decided to grab my pad of graphing paper (excited to have a use for it!) and put all these seemingly random scribbles on several post-it notes onto one place. This way I can have it all together and keep better track of things. It's nothing fancy and there are no labels just a date with information organised under it. I don't need to label each column since I know what it all means and it's not something I am going to be sharing.
