The new chart was a hit. I heard him get out of bed and come into the play room then exclaim "WOW! A train!" It made my morning.
Which was needed because it was another stressful day for me. He only peed twice today, at 1pm and 5:30pm. Both times on the potty but it was worrisome. I looked over the charts and he has been drinking the same amounts so maybe he is just holding it again because he doesn't want to stop playing. Which makes sense since he did wet his underwear several times. But then doesn't because I make him stop and sit on the potty more often when he does this. Hopefully it's just something he is trying out and will stop once he sees it's better to just pee.

Today was a nice day, the high was 26°C/79°F with a cool breeze. Unfortunately, I am not feeling well and this affected my ability to function properly.
The day was typical, potty wise. He did, however, have two accidents. I blame myself for these, I wasn't feeling well and lost track of time both times. Had I been paying closer attention he probably would not have had the accidents. Noteworthy, however, is the fact that after the second accident he tried to clean himself up. This is actually how I found out he had the accident, I saw him cleaning his legs. I want to say that maybe that will be an incentive not to pee on himself and let me know when he has to go, he obviously did mind being wet. But at the same time, this would mean letting him have more accidents and letting him stay wet longer instead of cleaning him up right away. In this heat, and with carpet, I am opposed to both options. On top of that, it may not make a difference. That's just the way he is.
He also pooped today. Got it in the potty! I had to sit him down three times before he finally went, the last time he really opposed the idea. He usually just tells me he doesn't want to and sometimes goes as far as running from me but this time he was actually struggling which is how I knew it was a definite go. I looked back on my chart and realised he has gone every other day. That is pretty regular for him and I am happy about that. I read a lot about kids becoming very constipated during potty training because they do not want to poop in the potty and I was really worried about this since he loves food that can cause constipation. No worries.

Another day of holding it in way too long. And me feeling even worse than yesterday didn't help. For someone that on average has been peeing 4-5 times a day, twice is just not good. SEVEN HOURS between them is even more concerning. I really think he just doesn't want to pee because he is too focused on getting back to playing. He isn't showing any signs of being ill but holding it that long cannot be good. I sit him down constantly and make him stay for quite a while when I know he has to go but still nothing. I checked his fluid intake on my chart (thank goodness I've been keeping track!) and he is still drinking the same amounts as before. I only hope that he will soon figure out that he can spend more time playing if he simply pees when he needs to instead of me having to interrupt him so often when he doesn't.

Third time of only two potty visits. However, today had the potential for a third visit. The two were only about 4 hours apart (just a little longer than his average of 2.5-3 hours) and had he not fallen asleep so early he would have probably gone again. I don't know why he fell asleep by 8pm, I usually send him to bed between 10-11pm. He just knocked out sitting on the couch. I tried keeping him awake, just one more hour wold have made me happy, but he was out. Oh well.
We did a trip to the store and that was exciting! I thought I was going to have to do the whole hiding the disposable inside the shorts again. I knew he had to go and I sat him down on the potty but after 10 minutes nothing. I left him there while I went to go get his clothes and when I returned he had peed! This was great! I did my whole trip without worrying about an accident at all.

This week I noticed two things with his potty chart:
1. He just likes putting stickers on there, the reward at the end of the row doesn't really matter to him. I guess it makes sense, he much prefers instant gratification rather than working towards something in the future. So I am letting him just put stickers on it when he pees. When he finishes a row I offer a treat, a cookie or something like that, and explain that it's because he went so many times on the potty. Sometimes he wants it, sometimes he doesn't. I'm not pushing it, we seem to be making progress and that is all that matters.
2. He likes the colour purple. With the exception of two stars (out of 9) all the star stickers he has chosen have been purple. One of those two was blue. He actually looks over the sticker sheet and picks out a purple star. I find it interesting to see that out of five possible colours he always chooses the same one. It's his reward so I never mention it to him.
