We've been potty trained for a while now and I'm still not fully satisfied with it. Not with the results, we're doing quite good, but how it all works.
My child only pees 2, maybe 3, times a day. While this is good because I don't have to make a potty stop every couple minutes, it can be quite frustrating with planning. I know he can hold it for several hours but that is several hours after he has gone. So if he has not gone I do not have several hours. And I can't make him pee. I've tried sitting him on the potty when he has not asked and he simply does not pee. So I have to resort to back ups like diapers or disposable trainers just in case he decides he needs to go when there is no way I can take him, like on the bus. It would be great if I could have him pee right before we leave and know with certainty that I can get to my destination that is only an hour away with no problem. But he won't pee. And if I have a time I need to leave by and he does not pee I have to go through the process of undressing him to put on a disposable trainer. Then when we get to our destination undress him in the bathroom to get him on underwear. Too much hassle!
Boys underwear. H-A-T-E them! I cannot figure these things out! So we have these size 4s because the 3 looked too small and the 5 looked huge. Put them on, mess with them a bit because they just always look crooked, and he sits. And body parts come out the leg openings. I mean, WTF!?!?!?!?!? So I stand him up, adjust some more, and same result. So I think, maybe the 3 was the right size. We move on. Later I notice them sagging (it's still warm enough for undies only days) so I pull them up. The waste band, which is this AWFUL thick elastic, slides down under his lil belly. I pull them up as far as they can comfortably go but they are still under his belly button. So of course they slide down. Then they shrink in the dryer and I think, well, maybe now they'll keep everything contained. No, same problem. Only now the elastic is even tighter so they always mark him.
Lesson learned: no putting them in the dryer. But they still mark him! And they twist and can never cover his behind right and his little parts are always coming out the sides. He isn't deformed. He doesn't have a huge behind or huge parts or a big belly. He has quite the average little boy body I think.
Is this just me or has anyone else experienced this? I don't think brand is the issue since he has a couple different brands with the same results in all (though the Hanes does not shrink). Is there a solution? Are those biker shorts looking underwear the only option? This is something I definitely know nothing about. And no, at almost 4, we are NOT going for boxers so I need other options.
